<p>The response to the recent release of <strong><a href="https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/FATEeyes/3512345">FATEeyes</a></strong> has been truly astounding, and I am truly enjoying developing the product to make it the best it can be, for you!</p>
<p>One small addition to version 1.2 is a new &#8216;Stand Still&#8217; animation that now freezes the eye animation, so no more looking left or right when you&#8217;re using the HUD. That annoying SL bug has been squished! How did I do that? Read on&#8230;</p>
<p>I hope you enjoy this update, you should receive it automatically by wearing the HUD, you can force the update when the HUD is worn by saying ‘/12 update’.</p>
<p>So, those of you who follow me on Plurk may have seen me battle over the past couple of days, trying to figure out how to animate the eyes in Second Life. They said it couldn&#8217;t be done, but I knew, somehow, it could &#8211; for I had seen such animations before.</p>
<p>Now, information on how to do this was INCREDIBLY hard to come by, it&#8217;s almost as if those who knew how to do it disappeared. Well, here&#8217;s hoping I don&#8217;t disappear because I&#8217;m about to lift the veil on this little secret.</p>
<p><a href="http://damienfate.com/random/EyeFreeze_01.bvh">Here is a nice and simple BVH file</a> that you can upload to SL and use it to freeze your eye rotations to a straight forward look. Be sure to upload it as priority 3 or higher for it to work (and loop the animation!). Once it is uploaded you can play it to see that your eyes no longer move, stop playing it to resume normal wandering eye syndrome.</p>
<p>Those of you willing to look deeper, go ahead and open the BVH file in a text editor of some kind, notepad is just fine. Go on, take a look and then come back&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; Isn&#8217;t that simple? Why isn&#8217;t this out there more?</p>
<p>So you&#8217;ll see, at the very bottom of the text, underneath the number of frames and frame time, a whole bunch of numbers.  Each line is a different frame, so we have two lines of numbers here. The first 6 numbers control the hip, you don&#8217;t need to touch those. The following two sets of three numbers control the X, Z and Y rotations of the eyeball. The first line we should keep at zeros, but feel free to experiment with the second line, save the BVH file and upload.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re feeling adventurous, you can add many more lines and frames to the animation to make your own eye gestures.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">I have a quick update to announce: Different iris sizes! You can now choose from three iris sizes, one smaller and one larger than the original size.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Along with this update are a couple of slight bug fixes related to heterochromia setups. All fixed now :)</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">As for the next update in a couple of weeks, here are a few features I plan to include:</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">- many more texture options for each part of the eye (especially veins)<br />
- custom eye textures<br />
- ability to share your presets<br />
- texture rotation<br />
- freeze eye movement for &#8216;stand still&#8217; mode<br />
- possible outer iris tint option (depends on how well SL lets me layer those alphas!)</p>

<p>Eyes are important to our avatars, just as much as clothes, skin, hair and our shapes. With FATEeyes <strong></strong>I wanted to create a product that would allow a user of SL to create their own custom eyes without needing knowledge of any 2D or 3D programs. I believe I have accomplished this mission!</p>
<p><strong></strong>FATEeyes <strong></strong>are mesh eyes that have been built to mimic reality, with an iris and pupil that do not point outwards like regular SL eyes. The pupil actually dilates and contracts like a real eye too!</p>
<p><strong></strong>FATEeyes <strong></strong>customiseable in 5 main areas. The iris, pupil, sclera, veins and shine effect.</p>
<p>Each part of the eye can be easily tinted through a colour wheel HUD, alongside many other features such as transparancy, glow, shine and the scale of the texture.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We are less than a week in to the March Mesh Madness event, but I want to issue a big public thank you to everyone involved who have made this event a success!</p>
<p>First and foremost, thank you to all the wonderful mesh creators who applied, it is very encouraging to see mesh being so widely adopted in Second Life.</p>
<p>Secondly, thank you to all the bloggers who spread word of the event, before and during. Without your help, we wouldn&#8217;t have seen nearly as many people come to take a look at what mesh had to offer.</p>
<p>Hopefully together we have helped enlighten people to the possibilities of mesh in Second Life for everything from clothing to owl avatars to giant burger seats.</p>
<p>While we&#8217;re here, I&#8217;ve noticed a lot of questions about the fair, comments about lag and such, and I thought it might be nice to give a little insight on why and how MMM12 came to be.</p>
<p>I had a second island aside from TenFifteen that I was renting out to another creator. Recently, they decided to downgrade to a smaller size which left me with a spare island. Usually, I would look to develop it for one of my own brands or do some other fun project but unfortunately my time was devoted to developing <a href="http://coldlogic.wordpress.com/">coldLogic</a>. So I figured doing a simple &#8216;little&#8217; event would be a nice thing to do, something which involved a passion of mine &#8211; mesh!</p>
<p>So I set up a quick blog post and a free application form and sent out a little plurk message looking for applicants. I figured a cap of 20 participants would be nice but didn&#8217;t imagine reaching that number.</p>
<p>The spots went in just a few days&#8230;</p>
<p>After building a simple mesh area for the event to take part in and recruiting some very eager bloggers to spread the word, the event launched, and it was massive! I had no idea that we would make the login page for Second Life and also be featured in the MOTD, this brought an unbelievable amount of traffic to what I considered to be a pretty low key event.</p>
<p>As we all know, where there are avatars, there is lag. Unlike larger fairs, MMM12 was just a sole island, I didn&#8217;t have another spare island to sit beside which people could enter, and I couldn&#8217;t really justify moving and renaming FATEisland to something more appropriate. To those that had trouble getting in, I feel your pain, but there wasn&#8217;t much I could do about it.</p>
<p>A lot of people have asked if I will be doing this again next year, my answer to that is a very decisive &#8216;maybe&#8217;. As I said before, MMM12 came to be only because I had the island and very little time to develop it, but if the circumstances arise again in the future, I may :)</p>

<p>Mesh has been in Second Life for 4 months now, there are hundreds of amazing designers bringing everything from mesh clothing to mesh vehicles and pets. Mesh allows for a greater variety and professional finish in content than any other building tool that came before it, and<em> it&#8217;s time we showed SL what mesh is made of!</em></p>
<p><strong>Today I am announcing 2012&#8242;s <a href="http://blog.damienfate.com/?page_id=791">March Mesh Madness</a> event to take place in Second Life, March 1st, 2012.</strong> The event will run for 2 weeks and include as many mesh designers and creations as we can fit into one sim. All are welcome to apply, big or small, professional or hobbyist, if you share the same passion for mesh and want to help promote this wonderful addition to Second Life then<strong> <a href="http://blog.damienfate.com/?page_id=791">I want you there!</a></strong></p>
<p>The <em>MMM12</em> event will be as simple and relaxed as possible, a nominal entry fee will be charged for all participants to set up prior to opening day and a store area will be provided. There will be no charity involved, no split fee charges, all proceeds will be going to the maintenance fees for the island during the event and setup period.</p>
<p><strong>Spaces are VERY limited</strong> with just one sim for the event, so please if you are interested in applying, read the Terms and Application page today and <a href="http://blog.damienfate.com/?page_id=791">get your application in fast</a>. This is a first come, first served event so don&#8217;t delay!</p>
<p><em>Successful applicants will receive around 500-1000 prims and around 1024sqm area of store space, depending on how many entrants there are.</em></p>
